  10.        This release note describes patch SG0000176 to IRIX 5.3.

  12.        1.1  _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_e_d__H_a_r_d_w_a_r_e__P_l_a_t_f_o_r_m_s

  14.        This patch contains bug fixes for all platforms supported by
  15.        5.3.
  16.  
  17.        1.2  _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_e_d__S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e__P_l_a_t_f_o_r_m_s
  18.  
  19.        This patch contains bug fixes for IRIX 5.3, all platforms.
  20.        The software cannot be installed on other configurations.

  22.        1.3  _B_u_g_s__F_i_x_e_d__b_y__P_a_t_c_h__S_G_0_0_0_0_1_7_6

  24.        This patch contains fixes for the following bugs in IRIX
  25.        5.3.  Bug numbers from Silicon Graphics bug tracking system
  26.        are included for reference.  Bugs 243108, 243659, 244525,
  27.        and 250171.  These bugs are as follows:

  29.           +o 243108: mt setblksz would fail with the errno EINVAL.
  30.  
  31.           +o 243659 On systems with multiple IO4 controllers, the
  32.             controller number would be reported incorrectly in
  33.             warning and error messages for controllers other than
  34.             0.
  35.  
  36.           +o 244525 Use of drives that supported variable block
  37.             sizes in fixed block mode would sometimes panic the
  38.             kernel.
  39.  
  40.           +o 250171 DLT tape drives were checking the wrong field to
  41.             determine if the drives needed to be cleaned, and could
  42.             therefore incorrectly report that the drive needed
  43.             cleaning.

  45.        1.4  _S_u_b_s_y_s_t_e_m_s__I_n_c_l_u_d_e_d__i_n__P_a_t_c_h__S_G_0_0_0_0_1_7_6

  47.        This patch release includes only this subsystem:
  48.  
  49.           +o patchSG0000176.eoe1_sw.unix It replaces the tpsc
  50.             driver.  The tpsc driver is a loadable driver, so there
  51.             is no need to reboot after installing this patch.  Use
  52.             the command: "/sbin/ml unld 144" to be sure that the
  53.             previous tape driver is no longer loaded, if you want
  54.             to be sure you use the one from this patch.

  76.        Because you want to install only the patches for problems
  77.        you have encountered, patch software is not installed by
  78.        default. After reading the descriptions of the bugs fixed in
  79.        this patch (see Section 1.3), determine the patches that
  80.        meet your specific needs.
  81.  
  82.        If, after reading Sections 1.1 and 1.2 of these release
  83.        notes, you are unsure whether your hardware and software
  84.        meet the requirements for installing a particular patch, run
  85.        _i_n_s_t.
  86.  
  87.        Patch software is installed like any other Silicon Graphics
  88.        software product.  Follow the instructions in your _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e
  89.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e to bring up the miniroot
  90.        form of the software installation tools.

  92.        Follow these steps to select a patch for installation:

  94.          1.  At the Inst>prompt, type
  95.

  100.          2.  Select the desired patches for installation.

  102.          3.  Initiate the installation sequence. Type

  106.          4.  You may find that two patches have been marked as
  107.              incompatible.  If this occurs, you must deselect one
  108.              of the patches.

  114.          5.  After completing the installation process, exit the
  115.              _i_n_s_t program by typing

  120.        To remove a patch, use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command as you
  121.        would for any other software subsystem.  The removal process
  122.        reinstates the original version of software unless you have
  123.        specifically removed the patch history from your system.
